I reset the timing again. I went to 5.8 * with the hose off. Attached the hose, it read 20.1*. Then ran it up to 2000 rpm with the hose attached and it read 38*.

I pulled the distributor apart to check parts, like vacuum diaphragm, springs, and checking for non working parts.Name: DSC_0031.JPG

My last try came at 20.7 * advance with no vacuum. Hooked the vacuum up, advance read 36.9* , sped up to 2000 RPM read 54.5 *. Sped up to 3000 RPM read 58.7*. I don't know if this is good or not.

The Elk wasn't idling well. I worked on that today, it idles better now. I plan to try checking the vacuum timing again tonight.

I tried to get the engine to idle better. But not much. I used a vacuum gauge off a manifold port and watched the gauge as I adjusted air/fuel screws. The needle was never still. I worked to get the highest vacuum and the smooth running engine.

I'm going back to the ported vacuum. I couldn't get it to idle right on manifold vacuum. Might be the cam causing me problems.
