    Default Ported or manifold vacuum?

On my Holley Street Avenger carburetor how do I tell which is my vacuum source? Name: DSC_0030.JPG

Size: 1.42 MB The little hose, above the air mixture screw comes from the distributor. It's known as a timer hose. The large hose under the primary fuel bowl comes from the PVC valve, which I believe is the ported vacuum. How do I advance the timing here?

I tried manifold vacuum port today but it didn't work any better than the ported vacuum I been using.

I was able to get it switched over to manifold vacuum today. It's running at 24* advance. Is that Okay? What changes need to be made?

I was having some detonation,so I backed off the distributor, backed out the the throttle screw, and turned air/fuel screws down to 1.5 turns.

I'm going to try changing the vacuum from the distributor using manifold vacuum. If anyone has any ideas please help.

I had 1 roller rocker that was making noise, so I adjusted it yesterday. That part sounds great.

Do I need to have adjustable vacuum advance on the distributor to make this work?

At idle the rpm is 780 with 34* advance. At 2000 rpm with 50* advance.

I checked the timing again. It was 11* with the hose disconnected an plugged. Plugged the hose in and was 37 * at idle. With the hose plugged in at 2000 rpm it was 67 *. I'm going to have to figure this out.
