Question How much to change timing belt on a Hyundai?

Turns out my cheap Hyundai Elantra touring has a timing belt that only lasts 60k miles...

How much should a mechanic be charging for this? What's a fair charge? I have a feeling the dealer's price may be a bit on the high end

If you're in the Greater Chicago area, do you recommend any mechanics?

Can't help you. But i would be willing to say that the dealer is going to charge alot more.

I know nothing about Chicago, but the timing belt will be around 6-8 hrs depending on what else needs to be replaced. I recommend changing crank and cam oil seals, tensioner and water pump if its run off the belt at the same time even if they are not leaking. If they start leaking in 6 weeks, you have to re do the job.

Funny how time flies- this is an old post, we can fast forward to now.

So, Marcel, how much did it cost?
