I may have just won the points championship for my class in the St Louis Region, but I am by no means an expert.

Actually I'm still considered part of the novice group since this is my first full year competing. There are SCCA regions all over the US with all kinds of racing.

For Pittsburg, contact Steel Cities Region of the SCCA. They have one last event for this year, but its THIS WEEKEND! They race at Pittsburgh International Race Complex (PittRace). Formerly known at BeaveRun, theyre located at 201 Penndale Road in Wampum, PA. This is a full service motorsports facility with a roadracing course and kart track in addition to the vehicle dynamics area that we run on. The track usually has fuel for sale as well as food, but Als Corner gas station and Subway are also just down the road at the corner of routes 351 & 18.

Check Steel Cities Regions overall website for additional information on other motorsport activities our club is involved in: http://stcscca.com/.

RacePa is a local internet forum for autocrossers and other motorsports enthusiasts to connect: http://www.racepa.com.

North Hills Sports Car Club is a non-SCCA local autocross club that offers additional autocross events at the North Hills Swimming Pool lot: http://www.nhscc.com.

Allegheny Highlands and Misery Bay are some other nearby SCCA regions that offer autocross events: http://ahr-scca.com/ and http://www.mbrscca.com.

Allegheny Region of the Porsche Club of America offers autocross & track day events in the area. http://arpca.com/

For rules and regulations look for www.scca.com, but a brief description of how it works can be found here: http://scrsolo.com/i-want-to-run/novice-guide/ Go to Sports Car Club of Americas national website for additional information on the SCCA as a whole. You can become an SCCA member there! Be sure to mention that you want to join the Steel Cities region (#39): http://www.scca.com.

For a street legal car - SA2010 helmet (not a motorcycle helmet) and that's it. No extinguisher, no cage, no special equipment needed. Although I do keep a fire extinguisher next to my car in the grid just in case.

I bought a cheap Zapp helmet to trash around the country with. I had to get a full face helmet for Land Speed Racing, but the open face ones are better for autocross.

A 2 or 3 lb. fire extinguisher can be had cheap at WalMart.

Happens to me all the time. After completing the 2011 Hot Rod Power Tour, I caught up with the driver of the Blue car below at the last venue (Detroit, MI). When we finally got around to swapping addresses we found we live 4 miles apart.
