Default 1969 VW Baja Bug for my daughter

It's been a while since I've been on. I've just been busy with life. January 10th is my daughter's birthday. She turned 12 today. For the last few years she has been helping me with the 50 Chevy. She has been saying she wants to learn how to build a car from the ground up. She has been wanting a bug for the last two years.

Well for a combined Christmas / Birthday present I got her a rolling 1969 VW Baja bug. It's been sitting in a field for several years with no motor or transmission. I got it for a few hundred bucks.

She has made a list of the stuff she wants for the bug and made a list of the things she has gotten for the bug including prices. She has been saving her allowance for a while. She is saving up for either a 1600 or 1641 VW motor. She wants it John Deere black with purple flames and black interior. She wants the rims flat black with purple and silver pin striping. She wants a full cage inside. We've even talked about running the heating ducts inside the cage so she can have heat and defroster vents right where she wants them.

She is already teasing the boys at school. They are bragging about getting remote cars for Christmas and she is proud to tell them she has a real car sitting in the garage.

She is 12 today and can't get her license until she is 16 so we have plenty of time to build the Father / Daughter project.

Welcome back and happy birthday to your daughter! Looks like an awesome project! She's going to have a blast when she gets her permit and starts putting the hours in

I know that if that were my daughter - half the budget on it would be spent on the sound system

A friend of mine from high school is coming up here this weekend. He is giving her the subs that used to be in his 56 VW bug. The box was built to fit in the area behind the back seat of a bug. Another friend already gave her a Pioneer head unit with CD and a jack to plug in her MP3 player. I have plenty of speakers and amps laying on a shelf in my garage. She is set for a stereo. LOL Cool part is she may only be 12 but she likes The BEATLES and plans on playing The BEATLES in her Beetle.

When she gets home from school she is getting a set of Craftsman Metric wrenches for her bug for her birthday. Her first of many tools. I have a spare tool box I'm going to give her too.

    Cool

    back...

It sounds like a great project for you and your daughter...

I like the idea of the heater and defroster run through the roll bar, just be careful of the water build up...

I know of folks that ran bumpers as air tanks and didn't drain them just to have them rot out...
