Question Do you have a car-related New Year's resolution?

Just curious how many people declare New Year's resolutions and what they are?

Car related: Clean out the garage enough to actually fit a car in there!!!

Personal: Finish the 2012 Chicago Marathon in under 4 hours.

    What's yours? Let's hear them!

Car related- Keep them all running and to win more rounds/races than I did last year.

Personal- Continue being the best Dad and husband and I can be, and to see 2013.
If winning was easy, then the losers would be winners.
I wish I was the man my dog thinks I am.

I do, indeed! And that is, drive it and not just wash it and look at it.
Because of me not using the car, I have since had to ...

Change the gas tank and all associated brackets/straps, nuts/bolts.
The fuel gauge sending unit, gas lines, filler sleeve, gas cap, and a whole sh*t load of nuts, bolts, washers ... yada yada yada.
    Rebuild the carburetor
Replace 3 of the 4 brake calipers (I'm waiting for the 4th to leak)
    Front brake hoses.
I'm sure there's more but I don't want to be reminded.

Never again will I not enjoy what I enjoy so much.

How long was it parked between uses when all that happened?

The seals in the calipers crapped out after about a year of not using the car, which leads me to believe that they were in the cycle of needing replacement. The gas tank (and related parts) were probably getting worse without me even knowing about it and it finally did me in when I got stuck one day on the side of the road. I found rust flakes in the tank and associated debris when I drained it. Carb and lines were clogged ... blah blah blah !

All (3 of 4) done and all is ok, for now ... if I keep my resolution, that is!

    Two of them...

    1. Now that I have made the decision to take the Mercury from 'fun cruiser' status to 'street/strip' status I want to have it at 13.4 or better by the end of the year. Not a lofty goal, but that's a respectable number for a perfectly streetable cruiser that you can have some fun with at 'test n tune' and 'run what you bring' nights.

    2. My 49 Chevy p/u (see album) will be back on the street this year, after many years of being spread all over the garage, basement and shed.

Here's to all of us achiving all of our '12 goals!
I may not do it all right, but I'll do it myself the best I can - THATS HOT RODDING!
