Default First Funny car in the 3 second range!

Anyone see Matt Hagan run the first 3 second pass at Charlotte? 3.995 and set a record for speed also! He had a great car all weekend!

Looks like they're gonna have to shorten the track to 800 ft. now! Records don't really matter much to me now that they've change the rules! Wonder what Wally Parks would have to say ?

Which rules are those? I get the length of the track but how about speed records?

Speed records are being set for the 1000 ft. Drag strip records for decades were based on 1320 ft, the traditional 1/4 mile. Let me put it to you this way, what if the NFL shortened the football field to 75 yards on now all kind of new records were being set! How would you feel about that? What would that do to all the hall of famers and their previous accomplishments?

There was no reason to change the standing 1/4. Justa lowering the bar so more rice can compete in the American tradition.

Don't know about the rice. They could have made changes to slow the cars down.

Actually, it was because there were too many tracks that weren't long enough to extend the sand pits to handle the increased speeds and it started with the death of the NHRA diver that was killed a few years back. I think they should have told all the participating tracks to extend. Those that couldn't/wouldn't should have been left in the cold as far as the NHRA is concerned. The answer they came up with instead sucked!!

True, should have been a temporary fix. Whats' now 3 or 4 years since NHRA implemented it. Just like airports in major cities, if they can't handle the increased air traffic, they have to expand. Hell, Rt66 dragway used to have 2 NHRA dates and they lost one and they have plenty of shut down area. Maybe moving the starting line back some to extend the shut down area. For what these tracks charge, I'm sure it could've been done, but it's lot easier to change the rules. Ok enough of my ranting.
