    Default Returned From "The Tail"

Left Sunday returned this evening, 1,486 miles. Good trip. Everybody had a good time, no mishaps, Vettes ran great.

The main purpose of the trip was to "run" the "Dragon", an 11 mile stretch of road in lower SW NC into TN that has 318 curves.

Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, motorcycle and sport car two lane tourism serving Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner28, Devils Triangle, and Six Gap North Georgia.

As an after thought, a side trip to the Biltmore Mansion and Estates in Asheville would be in order. After visiting the Biltmore, that was much more impressive than doing the "Tail", which was almost anti-climatic. The route (SR 28) getting to the legendary road was just as good, if not better, than the actual run. Then returned via a parkway which led us to Pigeon Forge (Dollywood) and Gatlinburg. (glitzy tourist traps, traffic and crowds)

In most sections of the "Tail", the 30 mph limit is quite fast enough. Most if not all motorists kept to the limit, at least the ones we saw. During our run, just observed one TN trooper heading the opposite direction. All in all, quite tame.

Now the Biltmore, what a fantastically beautifully built work of art. You would be amazed of how that place was built back in its day. The interior was.......I just don't know the proper adjectives to describe the place......I guess awesome comes to mine, a must see if you're in the area. Not allowed to take interior pictures, though workmanship and material, furniture, draperies, tapestries, art, just magnificent.
