Default Meet this week's featured member: The Hot Rod Grille

This week's Featured Member is The Hot Rod Grillle. He's from Winfield, West Virginia and has three The Hot Rod Grillle Cool Rides: his ’34 Ford 5-Window Coupe, ’30 Ford Deluxe Coupe and ’70 Corvette Roadster (454/4-speed). The man also has a garage that is, without a doubt, one of the coolest things I've ever seen! We got a hold of The Hot Rod Grillle and asked this former research chemist how he came to be so in love with cars. Check it out and enjoy!

What got you interested in rides?
"As a small boy, my parents would take me to the local dirt track for the Saturday night “jalopy” races. My favorite cars were always Model A to ’34 Ford Coupes. My parents were “car people”, so I guess it was already in my blood. In high school and college, I was into Model A’s while all of my buddies were into sports."

What current rides do you currently own besides your Cool Ride?
    "A 2009 Honda Accord Coupe (wife’s) and a 2002 Ford F-150."

    What was your first car?
    "A 1964 Ford Galaxie 500, 390 / automatic."

What is your fondest memory with your cars?

"Probably the best memory was created a few years ago when I was able to get my Mother (who suffered from Parkinson’s and dementia) into the ’34 (thank goodness for suicide doors) and took her to a local show on the Court House lawn in her small town. She sat in her chair and spent the day talking to folks and remembering her “good old days”. She usually didn’t like to go to public places, but that day she really enjoyed herself. The car won an award and Mom held the trophy all the way home. The grin on her face when I hit second, third and fourth gear was priceless! Sadly, I lost my Mother a year later, but I will always remember that we had a great day with the ’34."

What is the best feature of your favorite ride?
"My favorite ride is my ’34 Ford 5-Window Coupe “traditional” hotrod. The best feature of it has to be the fun of driving a car built with the early 60’s style (327 / 4-speed, bias-ply Firestones, tuck-n-roll ,etc)"

Of all the cars you've owned, which was your favorite and why?

"My ’34 Ford 5-Window Coupe (see “best feature” question above). The car has classic styling, good looks, great performance and is a “blast” to drive!" "

What is the best car ever made?
"Henry Ford’s Model A. The advancements that it brought to the industry paved the way for the later V8 cars."

What is the worst car ever made?
"Probably the Ford Pinto with the exploding gas tank and rust issues, although the Chevy Vega was a close second!"

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
"The people that you meet and the friend that you make are what is so special about the car hobby."

    Very nice!

Although we're just going to have to "agree to disagree" on the Vega thing....

LOL. Certainly no offense intended toward your great looking Vega (but you will have to admit there were rust issues and engine oil leak problems in the early years). I'd be proud to have your Vega in my garage!

If you can find a good bodied one, then take out everything that GM put in it and replace with fun/good stuff, they make for a pretty fun/cool car!

Man working in a GM dealers' parts department, I remember Vega's front fenders being a fast mover right off the shelves.
