    Default Hello from Winfield, WV

Hello from Winfield, WV. I was directed to this site by a buddy who thought I might fit in here with my interest in cars and cool garages. I'm a 57 year old retired chemist who has collected automobilia for over 40 years! I still own the first Model A that I bought in high school (several others have come and gone over the years). I have the '70 Corvette (454 / 4-speed) roadster that I bought new and the '34 Ford 5-window "traditional" hot rod that I've owned for 12 years. My other collecting passions are vintage advertising, gas / oil signs, pumps, etc. and coin-op games (jukes, pinball, etc.), which are housed in my garage. I'm very fortunate to have a wife who enjoys, and is supportive of my hobbies (she was the driving force behind building The Hot Rod Grille Garage).

There is a fully operational 1940's soda fountain in the garage, so stop by for a root beer float and a few games of pinball if you are ever in my area!

    Hi Marcel,

Re. your question, I've been collecting for over 40 years (I started in high school). Many of my items came by "word of mouth" from friends and family, with some of best advertising pieces actually being given to me years ago! My petroliana collection began with the purchase of a set of oil bottles at the AACA Hershey Fall Meet in 1970. My first coin-op item was a pinball machine purchased in the early 1980's (it's now in my daughter's collection). I'm always searching for the next addition to my collection (I added a rare 1950's Pepsi light-up sign last week).

The most enjoyable part of collecting is having friends drop by to share experiences and swap stories. The Hot Rod Grille Garage hosts several parties each year, ranging from hotrodder cruise-in car events to gatherings of the WV Pinball Player's Club. Recently we hosted an 80th birthday party for my mother-in-law and thirty of her friends. They were dancing to the jukebox, playing all the games, and enjoying soda fountain treats! Many of them commented that it took them back to their younger days! That seems to sum up what makes collecting nostalgia so much fun....taking us back to a simpler time.

As I've stated in earlier posts, there is always soda and ice cream (with all the toppings) at the fountain, so stop by if you are ever in the area. There is a root beer float waiting for you!

    Jim
